Randy, This sis something completely different. The potato batteries are a chemical reaction between the two different metals used as plates in the system. This is a measurement of a current generated between the ground and a tree using the same metal electrodes. The uptake of nutrient and other ones into the tree creates a slight difference in charge in the area of the roots. This is what is being measured.
