Nice trip report.  The mountain laurels are really impressive.  Up here the 
best I have found are a couple inches in diameter and maximum of twenty feet 
tall.  The old growth areas at Cook Forest likely had some bigger ones in the 
past, ad may still have them, but  haven't found any.  Deer browse is a big 
problem.
