Hello all,
I've been meaning to post this for a few weeks, believe it or not. But now I'm
caught up with email and with Youtube videos being sent to me and so on.
So, a few weeks ago I hiked in the Piney Hollow Preservation Area, over in
Franklin Township, Gloucester County. This preserve is just north of the
Unexpected Wildlife Refuge. In fact the properties are adjoining. While there I
shot a video in 4 parts. If you go to my Youtube channel (
http://www.youtube.com/user/MillerMeteor74 ) and look back 30 videos back from
the newest one, you'll find the videos I shot there. The ponds are gorgeous,
and according to the USGS survey maps they are old cranberry bogs.

The species there include,
In the wetlands and damp ground areas:

Atlantic White Cedar,
Swamp (Red) Maple
Sour (Black) Gum
Sweetgum (I think)
American Holly
Highbush Blueberry
Sweet Pepperbush
Inkberry Holly

In the dry uplands:

Pitch Pine
Shortleaf Pine (I think)
Black Oak
White Oak
Spanish Oak
Post Oak
Blackjack Oak (I think)
Chestnut Oak (I think)
another species of oak
A species of Hickory (I don't know hickories well)
Scrub Oak

I'm starting to forget now. That's why I put (I think) after some of the
species names. I should have posted the evening after that hike.
Anyway, there was a huge species diversity there, although such diversity is
normal in the Pine Barrens anyway. But I figured some would find this of
interest, and might enjoy the hike.
Barry
