Hello ENTS, Forbes Woods is an overgrown colonial farm/estate on the edge of the Neponset River Estuary perhaps a mile south of Dorchester Lower Mills (a neighborhood of Boston). The southern section of Forbes has an excellent American Beech grove adjacent to a mixed forest of beech, Black Oak, various hickory species, Black Birch, Black Cherry, White Oak, White Ash and others.
Black Cherry, height: 96.75' CBH: 9'4" American Beech, height: 102.09' CBH: 8'3" (there are several beech in this diameter and height class) Shagbark Hickory, height: 95.52' CBH: 6' 4.5' Black Oak, height: 88.25 CBH not measured (too much poison ivy on the trunk), a bit wider than the cherry. Black Birch, height: 91' CBH not measured (slender tree) White Pine, height: 111.15' CBH not measured, conifers in a separate grove, appear to be much younger than the hardwoods, not impressive trees.
