Robert Henry and I measured heights in the Wizard of Oz Oak
Grove with his new Forestry 550 Laser Rangefinder.
We measured the following trees:
Red Oak
35.6”

94.5 ft.
Sassafras #18 12.3”

Baum Red Oak 47.7”

Red Maple east 18.3”

Poe Black Oak 50.4”

White Oak #11 26.2”

ft. – this tree was measured by Fred Breglia with laser rangefinder at 114 ft.
in 2002 – it seems to have lost some of its top since then. It is still most
likely tallest White Oak in grove.

94.5 ft. – this tree has a complex crown
with
at least 40 iterations – it is most likely the oldest tree in the grove with
est. age of about 240 years (183 rings
on partial core). It is possibly the tallest Black Gum in NY.
