Thanks. Inspiring photo. You may well be right. A few pictures like the one you sent go a long way toward convincing me that there were giants in the Earth in those days. I have seen a few photos of early big trees, but in terms of white pines, this is one of the best. Unfortunately, we didn't have cameras around when New England's original forests were harvested and very few trees were measured then. I enclose a photo of some big pine logs (4-6' dia.)in Minnesota from the book " Tall Timber , A Pictorial History of Logging in the Upper Midwest" by Tom Bacig and Fred Thompson . These logs are probably from exceptional trees and appear to have little or no taper. They may in fact all be from the same tree. Enjoy!
