Hey Ed,
In Pacific Missouri they mine silica.  They say it is the best sand in the 
world due to all the grains being the same size.  I assume that the sand came 
from the sea that was here long ago. I don't know if this is true or not, the 
best sand bit.

Steve has it right.  From a geologic perspective, unless you are into dirt 
being pushed around by glaciers, the mid-west is a total waste of space.
