Bob: Its not winter yet in Minnesota. There is no lake ice or snow pack yet anywhere in the state (there is a little ice in shallow marshes, but warm weather predicted for Monday and Tuesday will probably melt that). In fact, there is no snow going north from Ely until 50 miles north of Lake Winnipeg, or going NNE from Ely, there is no snow all the way to Hudsons Bay. I believe this is the first time we will have reached December 1st without snow cover or lake ice in northern Minnesota. There are still a few roses in bloom in Minneapolis.
