ENTS,

How is everybody? It's been a little while since I have posted. It has been an
eventful year for me and my family. To put it shortly, financial problems, a
reduction in both my pay and my wife's pay, a new grandaughter, and my stepson
has been stationed in Iraq. My daughter has also moved further away from me
which has depressed me a bit. I have been in the woods less this year than in
years. This years highpoint was the ENTS trip to Congaree. I am still around
and still love trees. This last summer I did do some fishing with Brian ( My
stepson ) before he left for Iraq and I caught a 24 pound carp and won 550
bucks by it being the biggest fish caught that night in the fishing derby.
Anyway, I am overdue and have a post to do from back in the fall, so here
goes...

A couple of weeks apart, back in the fall, Joy and I along with the Tench
family went on a couple of hikes on Craggy Pinnacle and Sam's Knob. Craggy
Pinnacle is located going north from Asheville on the Blue Ridge Parkway on the
left before reaching Mt. Mitchell. Sam Knob is accessed at the end of Black
Balsam Rd which is on the right just past Graveyard Fields going south from
Asheville on the Blue Ridge Parkway.

The American Mountain Ash trees, which are a major component of the forest
canopy above 4,500 feet were very colorful this year. They had more berries
this year than I have seen since 2003. Along with Hawthorn & Holly they are
arguably my favorite trees.

I hope all of you are having a wonderful HOLLYday season

Check out the pictures.
