I finally watched this video, believe it or not.
The views expressed on that video are exactly the views that I should expect
regarding our Pinelands National Reserve, yet instead, the city and township
councils througout the region are all pro-development, and they could care less
about preservation for the future. It's really bad. The Pinelands Commission's
map shows all the types of areas within the National Reserve. Each type of area
allows a certain amount of development. But all they think about is getting the
maximum amount of development that they can get, in each city and in each
township. I've said this to people I know around here, that (IMO) there is not
one municipality within the National Reserve that's actually on board with
preservation. The Pinelands Commission is catering to developers, and the
municipalities that want their ratables, rather than going forward with their
mission, which is preservation of this area. If the people in this area cared
as much as the people in that video
do, we'd be much better off. I'm very disappointed in the Pinelands
Commission, as well as with the state DEP. The DEP has many failures as well.
What we have here is people who don't know anything about nature, don't care
about nature, and constantly throw litter out their car windows while drving
down the roads. They also take truckloads of trash and debris and dump it on
sand and dirt roads. They ride their ATVs every place they can possibly take
them, and ruin all the trails in the process, not to mention the sand roads
too. No one cares about the scenic beauty here, the many rare and endangered
plants, and the beautiful forests and rivers here. People go camping to live in
their trailers, drink beer and watch DVDs, instead of going hiking, canoing and
the like. There's something seriously wrong with the people around here. We
have a 1.1 million acre area of natural beauty, but few appreciate it. I don't
know. I could go on and on. Sorry for my rant. I just saw something in that
video that I don't see here, something that SHOULD BE here, the attitudes
towards what we have.

ENTS,

A short slide show:

North Carolina businesses, residents and politicians have voiced their support
for the proposed Grandfather National Scenic Area, which will honor and
preserve 25,500 beautiful acres in the Pisgah National Forest near the town of
Blowing Rock, the Blue Ridge Parkway and Grandfather Mountain.

The GNSA will preserve some of the few remaining old growth stands on the East
Coast. These trees, some of which predate the Declaration of Independence, are
an important part of our state's heritage.
