I suspect that it's an Google Groups admin setting that was accidently turned on. A little digging around by Ed may find the "switch" to turn it off.

Barry,
I have been wondering about hat today as well. I am getting paperclips with no attachments. The file content in most of these do not hint at any attachments, so it must be some sort of a glitch. The emails with actual attachments have the same paper clip with the attachments present. I don't know why this is occurring. Ed http://nature-web-network.blogspot.com/

    ENTS,
I receive all my ENTS posts in my email as they are posted.
Every single one of them tonight is showing in my inbox as having
an attachment. In Yahoo email, that's a paper clip icon. A couple
of them actually do have attachments, but most of them do not. Yet
all have the paper clip icon next to them. And it's only the
messages from ENTS, and only beginning with the one that is
time-stamped 8:38 am today. Before that, all posts are showing as
normal. Only the ones that really have attachments are showing
    with the paper clip icon.
At first I thought it was a Yahoo thing. But then I realized that
all email from other than the ENTS is showing up normally.
    I just think it's a bit odd. I don't think it's really a problem
    though. Just odd.
Anyone else see this in their inbox? At first I thought, wow! Look
at all those attachments! I will have lots of pictures to see. But
not so, just some kind of glitch, I suppose.
    Barry
