Thank you for "leaking" out with your information.

Welcome to the list

Trees Are The Answer

If something of this sort could be put together, you could perhaps introduce it
at a conference of environmental educators. Here in New England where I am,
there is the New England Environmental Education Alliance (NEEEA)
http://www.neeea.org/ plus each state has an organization. We even have local
organizations, such as the New London Environmental Educators Coalition which I
belong to. We put on an environmental conference for local school kids each
spring. Last year we held the conference at the Arboretum at Connecticut
College.

Sorry to just jump in like this. This list is so busy, plus I am a children's
librarian that has never measured a tree, that I had decided to just lurk on
this list to learn what I can and enjoy the photos and videos. But educating
the next generation to appreciate and value the natural world is so important,
I decided to "leak" out of my lurk on this topic.

John, Bob, You know that would be cool, to have a tree, nature,
art festival. We could have display booths with T-shirts, hats, books,
old growth info, whats going on with our Forests, young trees, etc.
ENTS has many talented and diverse folks, I think it would be a great
thing. Some could lecture, others demonstrate climbing
technics, measuing technics, etc. Perhaps a new movement for renewal,
green space, etc. We could have each annual festival in a different
region, one in the northeast, one in the southeast, etc. The problem
would be the logistics of such an event and where when to have it. We
have some great speakers and we could reach many children with
something like that. I know in years past some schools were teaching
children more about nature. I'm going to ask some friends who have
younger children what they are teaching them now about nature. Just my
thoughts. Larry
