    Thanks for posting the pictures.  Oriental spruce needs to be much
better known and more widely planted.  The fact that they grow so
slowly at first is a big problem.  I just got my Musser
catalogue--they recently started offering them, but the 2-2
transplants are only 6 inches tall (2-2 Norways are maybe 24"). Good
grief! Not many people want to nurse trees like that for 6 or 7 years
to get them barely up to 4 feet.  And nurseries just can't afford to
grow them unless they can charge 2 or 3 times the price of a Norway or
a white pine.  Unless the public in general gets to know them, and
demands them, they will never be planted much

     But it should be noted that once they get going they grow just fine.
