Ed, Before I made my Yahoo group restricted, people used to join all the time, just to spam the group. Usually they had legitimate-sounding names. In fact after I made the group restricted, I found myself approving people like that a few times. With my group, prospective new members are required to say something to me. People like that always said something that sounded legitimate, yet it was too general (yet I fell for it a few times). Then their first post would be spam, and I would send them packing. I've learned to see them coming. But they rarely try to join anymore, which is nice.

His email address is not in the membership list currently so he will not reply. I approved the posting of this innocuous message, but did not give his email address the "Always Allow" posting privelages. I did this because the message lacked any specific content beyond a generalized message. If he posts something meaningful I will approve him at that time. Looking over his profile on Google it looks like he joins groups and then post spam after he joins.
