Best, Mehrdad, LEAD Europe, C7 Date: Thu, 13 Apr 2000 13:21:18 +0100 * The Millenium International Media Conference on the Environment and 12th World Congress of Environmental Journalists SUVA - FIJI, JUNE 5 - 9, 2000 Theme: Climate Change and Small Islands The program is designed to bring together the current and potential environmental media organizations from around the world and from Asia-Pacific, Commonwealth countries, especially those from small islands, promoting and exchanging of sustainable environment management experience and contacts among environmental journalists, establish a Pacific Network of Environmental Journalists by representatives of National Environmental Journalists Unions of respective countries, initiating and illustrating the benefits of continuing networking between Pacific media and environmental NGO's, exploring future funding possibilities and the building of a network of environmental journalist organizations, strengthening the position of the free press, radio and TV. With the financial support of the United Nations Environmental Program (UNEP) and several development agencies participants Asia Pacific Forum of Environmental Journalists (AFEJ), The Commonwealth Environmental Journalists Association (CEJA) AND PINA Pacific Forum of Environment Journalists are organizing this conference. Interested individuals are invited to submit a maximum 400 word abstract in English to the Congress Secretariat at the address below. The theme for the abstract is "Programs undertaken by Government, NGO's and Private sector in respective countries on climate change activities & Media. "The abstracts must reflect on this theme or the congress agenda themes. Papers from Journalists, media NGOs and academia are highly encouraged. The deadline for abstract submissions is April 30, 2000. AFEJ assist the Part funding (living expenses/Registration Fees only) for representatives from national Environmental Media Organizations/Media NGO's or Environmental Journalists of Asia Pacific and Commonwealth countries upon their request before April 30. The cost of subsistence and accommodation for six days in Suva Congress will be about USD 660 (Hotel 60@6 + registration 200 + Airport tax, transportation and incidental expenses 100).
