KHga> I am currently looking for a decent allround zoom lens to match my
KHga> soon-to-be-bought EOS 30. I'd like to have at least a range of 28-135mm,
preferrably
KHga> more. This lens need not be top quality - an upgrade to Canon L lenses will
KHga> follow, as soon as I can justify the cost of these fine pieces of glass.
KHga> ;-)

KHga> While the Canon lens looks rather good, the Sigma 28-200 has received
KHga> slightly better reviews at less than 2/3 of the cost. Now this leaves me utterly
KHga> confused - up to now I was convinced that Canon provides better quality
KHga> lenses than all(?) of the competitors, but also charges a lot. Has this changed
KHga> or did I miss something important?

Hello Klaus,

As may already know ;-), I bought the 28-135 IS and I'm really happy with
it. After going around with my all my gear on the Expo2000 I realized that
I had used it for 75% of my shots. They turned out quite good with high
contrast and superb sharpness. IS was great when using it indoor where no
flash and tripod were allowed. I got some shots I wouldn't have got
otherwise. Also there are some slides with autumn impressions taken with it.
I can show you the photos - just call me.

Concerning the comparison to the other lenses you mentioned I can't give
you first hand information.
