I recently acquired this lens, used but in apparently
pristine condition. It seems
unlikely to be damaged.

I notice that I can not manually focus it at all unless the
the EOS3 is both turned on and the shutter release
button is half depressed.
This is the case regardless of whether the lens switch is in
the AF or the MF
position.

While the lens performs just fine after depressing the
shutter release, in this
respect it is quite different than my other two L lenses,
the EF300/2.8l IS and the
EF180/3.5L. Those I can focus manually without even turning
the EOS3 on.

Anyone know anything about this?
