In my quest to build a lightweight system based on a Rebel 2000 (EOS 300)
camera, I borrowed a used EF28-80mm f/3.5-5.6 II USM lens.

The camera weighs 335 grams (12 ounces), the lens 200 grams (7 ounces), so
the combination is quite light.

However the front-most part of the lens (where you would screw a filter or
attach a hood) has a little bit of play. This movement is also noticeable
through the viewfinder, but sharpness and focus aren't affected.

Does anyone have this same lens (please note, it is the USM version II
incarnation), and has noticed this play, or have I borrowed an excessively
beat-up lens?
