 To widen the issue a little, do list members have a view as to the 'best'
 third party converters? Like Jim, I have been considering a converter for my
 non-L lens(es) and am confused by the specifications I see:

 - some advertisers, for example, refer to a 1.5x Teleplus while others stick
 to the customary 1.4x or 2x;

 - is the Teleplus/Kenko 7-element 2x so very inferior to the Kenko Pro-300,
 also 7-element 2x ?

 and so on...

 For use with a low-cost non-L lens, does it make sense to buy the 'Pro'
 Kenko at a price nearly as high as the lens itself (I'm thinking of my
 discontinued 70-210 3.5 - 4.5 USM) unless it is going to bring much greater
 benefits? (Both the Kenko 2x are 7 element designs but the 'Pro' is claimed
 to autofocus with a slightly slower lens).

 I am among those still 'building' my EOS kit, so decisions like 'flash or
 converter' or 'macro or IS' are never far from my mind. One day I'd like
 them all! Any thoughts are welcome.
