Once you are used to the quality of the 100/2, you will find that only
L lenses meet your expectations in a zoom lens. You have a few
options:
Canon EF 70-200 f/2.8L and 1.4x or 2x TC
Canon EF 70-200 f/4L and 1.4x TC (2X if you use an EOS-3 or 1V)
Canon EF 100-400 f/4.5-5.6L IS
Canon EF 100-300 f/5.6L (non-USM, very noisy when AF'ing)
The optics of all these lenses are excellent, sharp and crisp. If you
don't want to spend this much money on L lenses, try the Sigma 70-200
f/2.8 HSM and a 1.4x or 2x TC. I use the 100-400 and the IS is
fantastic for handheld shots or with a monopod.
The 100-400 and 70-200/2.8 are big and heavy lenses. If you can live
with a prime lens, the 200/2.8L and the 300/4L are terrific lenses and
very small compared to the zooms. You can use the 1.4x and 2x TCs with
them. The primes are cheap compared to the two zooms mentioned above.
