Friends, Thought I'd pass along a real live testimony of the
weatherability of the 1v. The following is an e-mail from a friend who
is in the Smokies photographing wildlife in Cades Cove. He uses the
1v with the 300 f/2.8 IS and the 600 f/4 IS lenses.

Each day the bucks are more into the rut. Their necks are swelling
and they are chasing the does which are coming into heat.
I will have to report that my 1V did well and the auto focus on the
lens was right on target even with weeds, etc., in the way. I
photographed all morning during the snow, which was a wet
heavy snow, and the 1V was completely wet (wetter than the
picture they show in the catalog). It worked fine. The only problem
I had was taken the film out and reloading the camera while trying
to keep the snow out of the camera back.
Who knows what I may have when the slides come back, but the
Good Lord did grant me one of my wishes. That was, I always
wanted to be in the Cove when it snowed.
I noticed most of the Nikon shooters were riding around in their cars
and not out in the field shooting. I guess they knew that their Nikons
wouldn't repel water. (Only kidding) But there weren't many of us
out in the snow shooting, and I will have to say the equipment did
what it was supposed to do without any freezing up or battery change.
My cover (over the lens) kept it dry and when I got back to the car I
would wipe the camera off and keep going. I shot some 18 rolls of film
while I was in the Cove. (Sat. & Sun) This morning (Tues.) I had a big
buck and my fingers (with gloves) got so cold that I had no feeling in
them. Again the camera and auto focus worked and I was glad I had
the auto focus cause I'm not sure I could have focused the lens with
my hand being so numb.
