Actually, using compensation might be a good idea. I
don't have a clear picture of the relationship between
subject and background. If the background is fairly
far away from the subject, it should be dark enough
that the color cast won't be a problem.
Your goal here isn't really to increase flash power, I
think, but to reduce background exposure. With slide
film, I'd say use EC to reduce ambient exposure,
rather than FEC to increase flash output. For print
film, it may not make much difference.
