  Yes. I shot some test shots using the two lenses and the comparison 
is remarkable. Same camera, mounted on a tripod and fired via a 
wireless remote, same film, same aperture, same scene within the same 
minute while I changed lenses.

  The 50mm shots have richer saturation, better contrast and are much 
sharper than the 28-105. You don't need to use a loupe - just put the 
4x6" prints side by side and eyeball them. Or scan the negs.

  I was very depressed about this, as I'd just bought my 28-105. I 
mean, I knew intellectually that a consumer lens is going to be 
weaker than any prime, but the difference was startling.
