Hi Marc,
I've been trying to come to much the same decision. Perhaps you'll
get your Elan 7 before I get my backordered Elan 7 Date :-(

P.S. The AF assist light on the 420EX is supposed to cover the
seven sensors on the Elan 7. Has the 550EX an AF assist light?
Does the 550EX light only cover the central AF sensor?
