Hi,
I don't think the 550 EX's assist light covers all seven sensors of the
Elan7/30, as it does not cover all seven sensors of the EOS 300,
just five. It does not cover the two sensors above/below the center one
(well it sure would cover those sensors, but the asssist light doesn't light
up when they are used). The reason is (I think) because the AF-sensors
above/below the center sensor on the EOS 300 (and EOS 30/Elan 7, I
suppose) are horizontal sensors, and the assist light pattern is designed
for the vertical sensors of the EOS 3.
