Well the standard issue at most newspapers that hand out equipment is a
couple of camera bodies a 17-35/2.8, am 70(80)-200/2.8, and lighting
equipment. Some will have 14mm, especially papers that are digital, and
usually will have pool telephotos (300/2.8, 400/2.8, 600/4) and
teleconverters. Personally I carry around my -1N, 17-35, and my 85 1.8.
I'll have my 70-200 and 300/4 in my bag just in case. Another route a lot
of people use will be a 17 or 20mm prime, a 28-70, and a 70-200 or 200
prime. Most people will always have a flash with them, but there are some
that only use them as a last resort. I didn't go into the Leica that is
popular with a lot PJ's since it's way out of my budget.
