The new Sigma 100-300 f/4 does has HSM and is suppose to be quite a nice
lens. Someone who saw the lens at Photokina said it is very well made but
quite large (1480g vs EF 100-300 f/5.6 L at 695g) accepting an 82mm size
filter.

Not often, it seems like I keep running into situations where a little wider
than 70mms would work better though. But, I do carry a 1.4X extender in a
pocket just in case.
