I've just bought this lens as a sort of replacement for my Minolta MD
35-70/3.5 - ie: a sort of general purpose lens for landscapes and
people photos. It is a big sucker, especially with its massive lens
hood attached. Its quite heavy too. The front doesn't rotate but
extends quite a bit when zoomed to the wide end - however, the hood
connects to the bit that doesn't extend, so when its at 28mm the hood
is next to useless. Filter thread is 77mm, matching the 70-200/2.8, so
a polariser and UV is going to cost me a fair bit, but I will probably
need them - perhaps an 81B or C too.
I haven't taken a single shot with it yet, but I imagine the optical
quality is superb. Construction is fairly robust, lots of plastic, but
it still feels very solid.
Chris.
