Two problems though - getting the screens may be
difficult as these cameras have been out of production
for 8-9 years. The other is that they are definitely
not in the quiet class when it comes to wind / rewind
noise (not if you're used to an A2).

I believe the EOS 1/1n may have similar screens
available, someone else may be able to confirm this.

You're correct about the lack of a split image screen
 for the A2.

HI,
All 1 series - 1, 1n, and 1V have interchangable screens with split included.
As well as 3. Ans as it correctly stated - all 6xx series, plus RT have them
as well. I Use one on my 1n. My RT doesn't have one. All of those should be
availible fron B&H for about $30 - both for 1X series and 6xx series. If B&H
doesn't have original Canon screens for 6XX series, they list Beattie Screens
for them - which are brighter, but more expencive - $65. Chech B&H web site
to be sure - www.bhphoto.com. Or you can find them used on Ebay.- I did - my
split for 1n.for like $15.
And just a thought - 6xx series are great cameras, even though older - made
like a Pro metal bodies, with good, reliable metering system - I've had
630(600) before, and now RT - and they are great. AF a bit old and slower,
but still great bodies with many features, some don't even exist on newer
cameras anymore - pity. I think 630/600 and RT are the best out of all 6xx
series -( yes loud wind/rewind, but when you have 5fps biult in - hard to
complain), but I could be wrong.
Hope this helps.
George
