For the 12 x 8 choir picture I put in with the Mamiya ones I used a 2000P. I
use this for all prints that I sell. I have an 870 which I use for personal
photos and proofs, and an1160 fitted with Quadblacks for B & W only. For me
the biggest drawback to the 2000p is the so-called Metamerism effect,
different colour tone in different viewing light. Affects some pictures more
than others. I can usually get a good balance. I agree with the implication
in your question that currently the weakest link in the chain is the
printer, if your end result is pictures. This is my opinion for home
production....lightjet printers in Labs are a different ball game.
