Hello Janis,
I leave the Eye control feature switch ON with the Elan 7E, but I
almost always use the central cross-type sensor. I was surprised
at how fast Eye control operates (not having used it before).
Then again, I also find the four-way buttons very useful.
If you do not find the EOS 50 to be limiting, don't upgrade :-)
