HI folks -

I'm just about to pop the bucks for a 420EX, but something is
bothering me. My last camera I used a Sunpak that had manual control
of power fractions, from 1/16 to full, and of course an exposure guide
that "slide-ruled" with it. So that's what I'm used to. I got to know
this pretty well, and with a PC cord could do nice fill work, and
off-angle lighting with various intensities. The 550EX has this in
some form, but the 420EX is advertised as having no manual power
control. Is this going to be a hindrance? I want to be able to use
the flash not only for portraiture and outdoor fill, but also for
macro, and for experimenting with nocturnal photography. I will
eventually buy a 2nd flash for slaving.

Do you think I will be hindered by the 420EX in special applications?
One course would be to buy it now, while budget permits, and add a
550EX or equivalent later, and the remote unit.

Thanks for any lights.

Ken
