Hi Julian,

That's interesting, undoubtedly driven by marketing as
a way of differentiating between levels. I wonder
whether any of the other models can sync at 1/2 stop
higher speeds than specified.

The only trouble is that by using a non-ttl
non-dedicated flash it's a bit of a case of one step
forward and two steps back. You gain a bit in x-synch
but miss out on lots of other things we've all grown
used to with dedicated ttl flashes.

I for one can certainly remember setting the wrong ASA
on the flash at least once and using the wrong shutter
speed (more than once!). And I wasn't so fortunate as
to NOT get a nice blacked out section on the resulting
photos! That was with the old horizontal cloth
shutters in the A-1 which synched at a blindingly fast
1/60. I also remember trying to do things like
daylight fill flash - with the emphasis on trying (pun
intended)! Give me ttl anyday and I'll live with the
x-synch Canon decides to give us.

Regards
Gary
