Night scenes with or without a tripod? With a tripod, you really don't
need f/1.8. Either ways, the 50mm f/1.8 is probably the best buy in the
whole EOS series, it's very inexpensive, lightweight and an outstanding
performer.
Pros: light, inexpensive, f/1.8, excellent image quality...
Cons: No USM, no metal mount (then again, it's not required for a lens
like that).
If 50mm is a focal length you want and you don't have a 50mm macro lens,
by all means, get this...
