As someone who uses both EOS and old MF Nikon F's and
F2's, I think it's incredible how much quality you get
for what you pay for older Nikons/Nikkormats...
especially in non-AI glass... which brings us to:

> "pancake" 45mm lens,
Not too long ago, I bought a 45mm "guide number"
non-AI Nikkor. The interesting thing about this lens,
in addition to its being incredibly compact and sharp,
is that the aperture would vary with the focus
according to which flash guide number set on the lens
barrel. Thus for a given fixed flash power output,
exposure based on focus distance is always correct.
The "new" lens must be an AF relative. :-)
It occurs to me that you could design a "guide number"
exposure mode into an EOS body, since the camera's
firmware is in total control of the lens aperture and
"aware" of focus distance. It would make it really
easy to use those old power-ratio flashes on EOS
cameras. :-)
I'd love to have a collapsible AF 50mm for my Rebel G,
like the old folding Elmar 3.5 that fit the old
screwmount Leicas, it would make the camera very
pocketable.
