I doubt that this would sell in numbers sufficient to
justify Canon's cost. Manual cameras as backups were
very popular in the early days of auto-everything
cameras, because pros didn't feel comfortable relying
on battery power for critical situations. If the
batteries died, they NEEDED a backup that would work.
There were also some concerns about the reliablity of
all these electronics.
While there are still a few that feel that way, and a
relatively few situations where limited battery life
and access to batteries becomes a factor, pros have
come to embrace all electronic cameras. There are
very few places in the world where batteries can't be
bought, and carrying extra batteries is no more a
burden than carrying extra film. And F5s and EOS1
series cameras are probably more reliable than prior
generations of manual pro cameras.
It's relatively inexpensive for Nikon to offer the new
FM3, since it's just an update of the already in
production FM2. For Canon to tool up to make a new
body to accept FD lenses would cost a fortune, and so
would the body.
(And as for the T90 lacking features, it's a feature
filled wonder compared to Nikon's FM bodies.)
