Its very do-able.  ...all you have to do is cut the cable on a TC-80N3
(or better yet, a 1000N3 extension) and splice in a 2.5mm plug/socket
pair.  However, its my experience (I did this to a 1000T3 extension) that
Canon uses special wires which are exceedingly difficult to solder.
