My 550EX has a power plug near the base, I wouldn't know what kind of
connector it's called though.  I just ordered rechargable lithium-ion AA
batteries since I don't want to carry around a battery pack.  I think
"off-camera terminal" may refer to PC socket ability?

According to Canon's site you can hook up Transistor Pack E or Compact
Battery Pack CP-E2:

The boneheads apparently don't have specs for the 420EX up yet.
