For this type of photography, you will need a high-voltage battery pack.
These batteries connect to the high-voltage outlet located near the flash
shoe. Your choices are the Quantum Turbo/Turbo Z or the Dynalite Jackrabbit.
Pros:
1. Fast recycling time--virtually instaneous in TTL, about 1.5 sec. at full
power.
2. Either of these high-voltage packs mentioned will power two flashes
(Y-cable adapter)
3. Useful with third-party flashes and other camera systems (e.g. Nikon).
The Turbo is compatible with the Q-flash, a large TTL flash favored by
wedding photographers. Dynalite makes a Uni400jr 400w/s monolight that can
be powered by the Jackrabbit.
Cons:
1. Size/weight: The battery weighs two pounds and you will need to wear it
on your belt. The cord may be bothersome. For 20 rolls of film, you may need
two battery packs.
2. You still need AA batteries to power the "computer" portion of the flash.
3. The cable to connect the battery pack to the flash is not included.
4. Initial cost: Either high-voltage pack will set you back $300.
You may need to pick up an additional 550EX, since the flashes will need to
cool down after repeated use.
I use the Dynalite Jackrabbit and find it indispensable for event
photography.
