Hi Bob,

If the lens is Tokina 28-70 f/2.6-2.8 original (not mk-II), then it is
NOT compatible with your Elan IIe/50e body. In order to make it works,
you have to send the lens to Tokina and they should be able to upgrade
the chip inside the lens to make it compatible with newer EOS bodies.
Several older third-party lenses (Sigma, Tokina, Tamron, Vivitar, etc)
were not compatible with newer EOS bodies - you may check list archive
for details.
