The IIe does have a battery contact problem, but I
doubt seriously cleaning the contacts will fix it.
The real problem (and it amazes me that people who get
paid for solving customer problems know so little), is
that some brands of batteries are shorter than others.
Short batteries don't make good contact because the
spring inside the batter cover is poorly designed.
Fold a piece of paper over a few times and put it
between the battery and the door. I had problems
regularly on my Elan until I did this, and have had
none since I did.
