I've got nice sharp photos using my EF 75-300 and Kenko 2X extender at
600mm hand held at 1/30th of a second. Just think how low I could handhold a
100-400 IS lens! I got a nice shot inside a really dark temple of a big
Buddha statue, handheld at 1/8th second at 135mm. I leaned on a pillar and
squeezed gently. I hope those IS lenses don't make people forget that good
technique is still important.
Try some shots at a lower speed and see what you can come up with.
1/30th isn't that hard for any lens.
