I have this lens, its fast AF, wonderfully sharp (maybe too sharp for
portraits).
Solid and well made but its not light. It is not as close focusing as say
the 
28-135IS Zoom which has close focusing, but that aside no drawbacks except
that 
is does add another lens to tote. ;-)
