This is exactly what happens if I use my EF300L f/4 IS on a tripod. When I lease IS on 
the picture sort of 'moves' from left to right on the viewfinder. I've heard that this 
'bug' has been solved in the second generation IS lenses. Also in the manual it is 
clearly stated that when this particular lens is used on a tripod that the IS function 
 should be disabled.
