I actally think the incidence of this failure is
probably much lower than this list makes it appear. 
Remember that the vast majority of EOS owners have
never heard of this list. And of those who own EOS 5's
AND belong to this list, you only tend to hear from
those who have a problem, not from those who don't.

Could the design have been better?  Sure.  Are
thousands and thousands of EOS 5s being sent back for
repair?  I doubt it.
