I think you're seeing a "placebo" effect. If you just
spent more than a $1000 for a 17-35mm Canon, you're
likely to see it as performing exceptionally well,
whether it does or not. Combine that with the fact
the very few of the reviewers have the ability to
compare two lenses directly, and that all the rating
categories are subjective, and it's not surprising
that one man's great is another man's good, and
someone's good is another's lousy.
