I'm new to this list, so I thought I'd give some info. I am a relative newbie in
Phoenix, AZ. I have had cameras for about 4 years, but I never really got past the
snap shooting stage. Now that I am interested in getting more serious, disaster.
In 1997, I had a Canon P&S stolen from my car, so I bought a Rebel XS (with a 35-80
lens). I have recently purchased the 75-300 USM model. However, I only used it once
for some test images.
The next day, my sister-in-law's wedding day, I was using the camera. The battery
indicator said it was low, so I put in new Duracell batteries and gave the camera to
my wife. Just before the ceremony, my wife comes to me with the camera showing "bc"
on the LCD panel. I thought that I had mistakenly put the wrong batteries in. After
the ceremony and before the reception, I bought new batteries. Still the same
problem, "bc" on the panel if you push the shutter release.
I took the camera in to the one referred to me by the Canon 800 number. They said
they can't fix it and I have to send the camera to the factory.
Anyone had this type of problem? I saw a post on the Usenet by someone with a similar
problem. He was quoted $165 for a new motor.
Personally, I haven't sent the camera to the factory yet and am just considering
buying a new body. The choice is between the Elan 7/7E and the Rebel 2000. From what
I've been able to learn, the Elan has a faster top shutter speed (1/4000), faster
continuous shooting speed (4 fps), more focusing points, eye focus, and a more
sophisticated mirror. In favor of the Rebel 2k is the $200 price difference.
Anything I should know about either camera or with fixing my Rebel XS?
