I have used a 20-40 Tamron for several years and find it a superb lense.
I had a 20-35f2.8L and it failed at an assignment (first and only ever Canon
lense failure- the rear element "fell in"- really weird).
So the dealer took it back, and I decided to try the Tamron- I most always
use it in MF mode so I did not care about USM, and, I wanted to get a 40mm
focal length which I like very much. I also use it on my EOS1x and it has a
nice range there. I have gone to 16x20 with it and find it superb,
especially at f4.0-f8.0 range. One of my all time favorite lenses.

For those po'd at USA for recent presidential decision and Kyoto accord- I
say this. Many many people in the USA are fed up with our lip service to
scientific problems such as global warming. We are very disappointed too at
the short sightedness and lack of vision that would have us pull out of a
treaty that was only going to get us back to 1990 standards. Please remeber
that this decision does not reflect the will of the people in the USA, and
many of us are livid about it. we are attempting to change our campaign
finance laws, so these kinds of "corporate" decisions are not made.

Anyway- I heartily recommend the 20-40 lense.
