Bob,
I have the 70-200 f/4L. Love it, the images are really
sharp, I haven't used the f/2.8 so I cannot compare image
quality.
As for the extra stop, I haven't missed it so far, in the
situations that had low light, the extra stop would not have
been enough in most cases either. So considering the price and
weight the f4 is more that adequate for me.
