That makes me think... HOW are the cameras counting the first frame??

With my 50E I always align the 4th sproket hole with the roller  that's
avoiding the film from scratching (just before going into the drum that rolls
it to advance the frames). That's the minimun needed for the camera to be able
to hook-up the leader into the drum.

What I'm sure of is that there has been times when I did that and the film was
not flat or I was in a hurry or ... (whatever) but the camera always succeeds
in aligning the frames correctly.  I use to change films often and I've never
had a frame misaligned.

I'm sure I'm not exact enough for that, so the camera is counting the start of
the film in some *very consistent* way.  How?

Any ideas?
